REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE
Our Vision
At FROMM, our innovative technologies, manufacturing processes and industry-leading products all endeavour to benefit the environment. We actively strive to develop and produce better products for a better planet.
FROMM's vision is straightforward: we are committed to the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling. We are focused on enhancing efficiency to reduce resource consumption, promoting the reuse of products, and the recycling and conversion of materials.
Our Commitment
FROMM is committed to using environmentally friendly resources where possible. We aim to utilise transportation methods efficiently and reduce both direct and indirect CO2 emissions. At FROMM Packaging Australia, we believe we have a responsibility to reduce our business’s environmental impact as much as we possibly can.
Every day, secure and reliable packaging ensures the safe transport of goods around Australia and the world. From agriculture to construction, manufacturing to healthcare, packaging is critical to the smooth operation of our most essential industries.
Our industry is striving to create packaging solutions that use fewer resources and generate less waste, to ensure a sustainable future. It’s a challenge we’ve embraced at FROMM over the past two decades – innovating our products and processes to reduce their environmental impact, while making sound business sense for our customers.
FROMM is the first packaging supplier in Australia to offer PET strapping made from up to 98% recycled plastic bottles.
FROMM is the first packaging supplier in Australia to offer PET strapping made from recycled plastic bottles – designed and manufactured via our own in-house closed loop recycling system.
Using materials from FROMM recycling plants and produced on state-of-the-art extrusion lines, our PET straps aren’t just made from recycled materials – they’re also fully recyclable, capable of being reprocessed and reused again and again.
Eco-friendly solutions for protective packaging
FROMM provides a variety of in-box and on-box packaging solutions for businesses of all sizes in Australia. Our range includes patented void fill air cushions, which consist of 99% air to minimise the use of raw plastic materials, as well as reducing weight and shipping costs. Additionally, we supply recycled void fill options, biodegradable films, 100% recyclable paper tape, HDPE/LDPE bubble film, and dunnage export bags crafted from recycled and recyclable materials.
Durable tools and machinery supported by our FROMM Service team
A FROMM product is not just a purchase - it's a commitment from our business to yours. Our energy-efficient tools and machines are designed to be with you for the long haul, with low-wear parts that can easily be disassembled for repair, replacement and recycling.
Our nationwide FROMM Service Technicians support our tools and machinery with a standard 24-month warranty and offer regular service support through our 'Lifecycle Care' program.
Our Facilities
Running our facilities efficiently not only reduces our impact on the environment – producing less waste, and using less energy and water – it makes smart business sense, saving time and money. Measures implemented across FROMM’s global operations include solar energy installation, controlled water circulation, reuse of waste heat, and comprehensive waste recycling.
In Australia, our sites are primarily focused on product distribution. In 2024, our 5,000 m2 Brisbane warehouse became the first to be installed with solar, providing the site with 100% of its energy needs. We are currently looking to also expand solar to our Sydney location.
Our People And Our Communities
FROMM believes that looking after people starts with supporting and protecting our team – from opportunities for continued education and regular training, to ensuring safe and fair working conditions at our sites.
Beyond our business, we also empower our people to give back to their local communities – by financially supporting participation in charity events that are aligned with their personal stories and passions.
APCO Membership for a sustainable future
While we keep working to reduce our environmental impact each day, we know there's a long road ahead to a sustainable packaging future. Whilst we have made good progress over the past two decades at FROMM, industry-wide collaboration and knowledge sharing will be crucial to our collective long term success.
FROMM Packaging Australia joined the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) in 2023, currently 2,300 members strong and growing. APCO is a not-for-profit organisation leading the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia. Members have an obligation to demonstrate commitment and tangible action towards sustainable packaging and are also required to submit annual reports and action plans. Learn more about APCO's sustainable packaging goals here or read through our annual APCO reports.
FAQs
FROMM’s PET strapping is made from 98% recycled material. Our performance stretch films are made from virgin material, but we also have a range of hand and machine films that contain 30% PCR (post consumer recycled content) resins.
Some of our smaller protective packaging solutions contain recycled material, such as our dunnage export bags. Contact our team at info@fromm-pack.com.au for more information if you’re looking for a specific product containing recycled materials.
All FROMM products are marked with their relevant recycling codes, so that our customers can easily sort and manage their packaging waste.
In Australia, recycling and waste processing is managed differently between council areas, states and waste management providers – meaning that there are currently no universal guidelines for disposing of packaging waste in Australia. To better understand what options are available in your location, we recommend that our customers consult with their waste management provider and/or relevant government bodies.
All of FROMM’s products are designed according to the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – with ‘Reduce’ being our first and highest priority.
‘Reduce’ means innovating to reduce the raw material and inputs required to manufacture our products. It means innovating for efficiency, so that our tools and machines consume less energy and last longer. ‘Reduce’ also means working with our customers to find smart material-machine combinations that meet their precise needs, and then helping them to use those products correctly – cutting down on material usage, unnecessary waste, and saving costs.
Although we are consistently innovating to reduce the amount of plastic and non-recyclable materials in our products, some items are still quite challenging to manufacture with recycled or partially recycled content, particularly without sacrificing quality and performance. While strides are being made, many innovative materials currently development or available in the market are cost prohibitive and not yet feasible for commercial use.
This is an area we are working on actively, and will continue to evolve as technology advances and more solutions become available.
The first and simplest way we can help you is by auditing your current packaging systems to understand if they are running as efficiently as they can, and are fit-for-purpose. We can then test any recommendations for containment or performance improvements at FROMM’s R&D centre and tilt testing facilities.
Many of our customers discover through this process that significant savings can be realised – in the past, we’ve helped customers save up to 40% on materials and costs.
